December 29, 2004 -- STREET BECOMES TOWN
A visiting island family this year explained that their son had asked them if he could visit “that” town again. “Which town?”, the parents asked. “The town with all those lights”, he replied.
SANTA TRIPLE TIME
The bus from Seabrook had a special street treat recently. After hearing the Seussian Rhyme, Santa boarded the bus to hand out candy canes. He then presented his S.I.T. (Santa In Training) staff which included Mini Santa and Micro Santa. Micro, an unexpected supplement to the Santa suite, proceeded to cry vigorously.
VISITING SOLDIER SUPPORT
We were fortunate to have a veteran of the Afghanistan war visit our street. When we realized that he had just returned from his assignment, we jumped up from our seat to shake his hand. The other visitors on the street lined up behind us to shake his hand too.
MEDIA COVERAGE
This year multiple publications gave Dove Street lots of coverage. Articles included those in the Island Packet, the Carolina Morning News, Island Events, and for the first time ever, the Hilton Head Monthly had a two page spread featuring Ben Ham’s great picture.
NO COUNTING ON TRAFFIC
The town of Hilton Head Island installed a traffic counter for the two weeks so we could find out how many cars came down the street. Unfortunately, the device malfunctioned and the traffic count was zero. We know that there was more than that. It was reinstalled for a last minute end of year count.
GOOD WELL PAYBACK
A young woman came down the street and asked where she could make a donation. When she was told the well had been moved, she remarked that she was going to make a donation because last year at this time she had been a Deep Well recipient.
Circulation: A few feet in multiple directions.
