January 11, 2003 -- RECORD VISITOR TURNOUT
Island Packet articles as well as WSAV & WHHI features were responsible for even more folks visiting our neighborhood. With more light seekers, the 25+ Deep Well volunteers at Coligny plaza saw an increasing volume of food, presents, and cash donations. Entertainment for a 2nd year from local school and church groups added to the fun.
RUSTLED REINDEER
Unfortunately, one our new lighted reindeer wandered off late one night never to be heard from again. We are hopeful that he made his way back to the North Pole without incident.
DOVE STREET DIG
Our street was torn up by work crews, installing huge drainage pipes for over a week. Workers took great care to preserve our artistic creations and even used the telescoping pole to raise the dove high enough for the machines to work underneath. Construction fences provided additional light decoration opportunities for residents. Any chance we could have them back next year?
LIGHT ENGAGEMENT
We have learned from confirmed sources that Dove Street provided the backdrop for a marriage proposal in 2001. A colorful postcard was provided this year to the bride’s best friend so she could create a lasting memory for the happy couple. We understand that The Question was written out in lights by the hopeful groom. Ah.. romance a la Dove!
APRES LIGHTS
A few unexpected but noteworthy visitors stopped by after the lights came down. First, a Canadian couple, disappointed having missed the show, seemed content upon examining the large ornaments packed in boxes underneath the magnolia tree. A Mexican family despondent over having missed their photo op, pleaded to have us put the lights back on. Upon realizing that this was impossible, they seemed happy when we provided a souvenir postcard.
NEW POSTER
Hopefully everyone saw the beautiful poster on display at Coligny created by Ben Ham. He superimposed last year’s postcard on a holiday ornament with sparkling results!
