December 5, 2000 -- 10th ANNIVERSARY
As the season approaches, we are thrilled to see so many new (and old) faces on our street admiring the lights. It is hard to believe that 10 years ago we first began what has become the holiday tradition of lighting Dove Street..
COMMEMORATIVE DISPLAY
A special light display can be seen this year in the trees high above Dove Street. It consists of an outline in white lights of a dove holding a green olive branch with gold berries. Above the dove is an arrangement of 10 lighted stars, one for each year we have had the holiday lights. We would like to thank all of the neighbors who have participated during the years as well as all those visitors who have made more than generous contributions in food, unwrapped presents, new clothing, and checks for The Deep Well.
CURLEW JOINS THE FUN
More light-headed neighbors have joined the fray!. As our street system became one-way last year, visitors to Dove Street have been travelling down Curlew Street and Dune Lane to reach Dove Street. We have seen great creativity and imagination in new displays on these streets.
CHRISTMAS CAROLING
Last year many Islanders including the Girl Scouts and residents of Tide Pointe joined us to sing Christmas carols on the street. We hope to have a repeat performance this year. If you have interest or know of someone who does, please let someone on the street know. Lord knows, we have plenty of song sheets left over from last year!
ONE-WAY SYSTEM!
As we mentioned earlier, our streets were converted to a one-way system. Enthusiastic light seekers have not always paid attention to the new signage. Please be observant during this busy season, and enjoy the lights the right way, going with traffic.
MEDIA COVERAGE
WSAV, the NBC affiliate in Savannah, has contacted us about a possible feature on Lights of The Low Country. We hope everyone will have their lights up before the camera crews arrive.
Last year an article appeared on the front page of The Island Packet. Many kind things were said about our neighborhood spirit and interaction between families. We should all feel very fortunate to live in an area like this one.
