December 31, 1998 -- DEEP WELL DIRECTOR GIVES THANKS
To: The Dove Street Newsletter From: Betsy Doughtie
Over the years, The Dove Street Lights have come to epitomize the best of the Christmas season on Hilton Head. A place where neighbors, friends, and strangers (soon to be new friends) can come together to enjoy the glorious light show, sing Carols, and share in the cookies and refreshments of the season. It brings out the best of the giving spirit of the holidays, with ever increasing contributors of food and money to The Deep Well Project, Hilton Head’s private social service agency. Deep Well is an organization that is truly owned by the whole community of Hilton Head, and is made possible by so many doing so much in their own way. The caring and concern of the Dove Street viewers for those in need on our Island is a great vote of confidence for all that Deep Well does for our less fortunate neighbors. We at Deep Well send our deepest thanks to all the Dove Street participants for your hard work and zeal on behalf of our organization.
WHAT A YEAR!!
This year we collected approximately 1000 pounds of canned and non-perishable food, two frozen turkeys, and the world’s largest Christmas stocking. Also collected were 8 bags of presents and a large stuffed purple alligator affectionately known as Deep Welly. We hope he found a nice owner. Overall donations grew 330% from last year.
SUMMARY
