Deep Well Holiday Donations

We cordially invite you to stop by Coligny Plaza to enjoy the Holiday Spirit.

Volunteers are staffing our “Community Well” during December 9-24 5:30-9:30. They will be grateful for your donations of money, non-perishable food, or unwrapped gifts for teens and younger children.

A History of Caring: The Deep Well in Hilton Head

Charlotte Heinrich, a former public health nurse, founded Deep Well in 1973. At that time, widespread parasites in shallow water were infecting local school children. Charlotte developed programs that brought clean, deep-water wells to native islanders.

Deep Well now has outreach programs that provide food for the hungry and provides emergency aid with rent, water, and utility bills. Household furnishings are “recycled” from donors to clients and temporary shelter may be provided for the homeless. The livable housing program provides aid for septic systems and home repairs. Additionally, the children’s program provides medicine, clothing, childcare costs and school supplies for children in need.

Deep Well encourages independence… not dependence. They help clients who make an effort to help themselves and steadfastly resist setting up cycles of dependency.
